Other than yahoo messenger, google talk, ICQ, and Jabber, Meebo.com is becoming a website for instant messaging. Even though in its early stages, the objective of the project is to combine the multiple-network connectivity. Meebo on the other hand, has launched a “meebo me” widget that permits users to embed a version of meebo on their personal website. This messenger allows some people who are behind firewall networks to hook up to instant messaging services given that the information supports HTTPS. Like any other instant messenger, users can join chat rooms and even host chat rooms. Meebo is  also supported with file transfers.

One social networking website is Facebook. It was launched in February 4, 2004. It is owned and operated by Facebook, Inc., the parent company of the website and a privately owned company. It is a free-access website which allows users to join one or more networks, like a school, geographical region, place of employment, so that people can easily connect with other people who are members of the same network.

The name Facebook refers to the paper facebooks which depicted members of a community in a campus that some American preparatory schools and colleges give to incoming students, staff and faculty so that they can easily get to know other people on campus.

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg while he was still a student at Harvard University. Initially, website membership was limited to Harvard students only. Later it was expanded to include any university student. Soon it included high school students. Finally anyone 13 and over were allowed to join.

Currently, the website has more than 64 million active users worldwide. The website’s ranking has significantly rose–from September 2006 to September 2007, it’s ranking among all websites, using traffic as a criteria, increased from 60th to 7th, based on Alexia. Facebook is the most popular website for uploading photos–14 million are ulploaded everyday.

Facebook has come a long way in terms of innovation.
